Lol their responses to the question why they took off the makeup. It was a publicity stunt, an attempt to re-gain popularity and recognition, oh and also money.

Put Vinnie’s makeup back on. It’s like opening the Ark of the Covenant.

Besides all the usual stuff discussed about this classic interview, I gotta wonder, couldn't anyone give the great J.J. Jackson a stool?

This interview needed Ace to interrupt with comments and bust Gene's balls.

Kinda weird how the S’s in the logo look exactly like the German SS. Same font and style. Especially when it was cofounded by a Jewish immigrant.

Vinnie Vincent should have kept quiet. He made himself look like an ass. He had only been in the band for a year. Even Eric car didn’t say anything and he was in the band longer. This unveiling was really to see Gene and Paul without their make up; hardly anybody else cared about Eric or Vinny

With the masks they are mildly entertaining. Without the masks they are an embarrassment. Garbage with the narcissist Mr Gene "cry baby" Simmons.

KISS has never been my scene and I cannot deny their success nor their popularity nor their longevity and ability to continue to entertain for nearly 50 years now.

KISS unmasking themselves on MTV was like aliens landing on your street. And regardless of what Paul and Gene say here the makeup was a gimmick to get people to attend their shows and build interest in the band. The message they wanted to send after 10 years in makeup was, "We want this band to stand on its music, not the theatrics…" And for what it's worth, I think the song writing, the musicianship and the quality of their art overall improved after the makeup was removed.

I was also a bit disappointed by J.J. Jackson here forgetting that Alice Cooper was doing more with theatrics in rock and long before KISS which even Gene and Paul have acknowledged a few years even before the Unmasking here.
