I say HELL YEAH!! First of all… Also, I love this video! I love all of the episodes I've seen Murs do!! I'm from Tucson, Arizona, by the way, so I got a great deal of respect and love for Murs! This is the first time in a couple of weeks of binge watching episodes that I've actually commented tho because this is one episode that just really resonated with me! … So, again, love, respect. Keep doing your thing!! Peace!!✌?

How can the rhymes be connected to Africa after centuries? Maybe it's schools teaching kids poetry

You could say in a way, we all can relate to hip hop culture "we were brought here against our will to be slaves" through my perception we all are dragged into our life role against iur will. Only given choice after the choice has been already made for us.

Jazz and the blues crossed over to other races and became part of global culture. Hip hop is still 'a black thing' and it may remain so, which is a limiting factor in the end. The best thing about hiphop for me is that it's easy to create, and can be done anywhere by anyone, on no budget at all. It would take years for me to learn jazz, but I could have my first crappy rap song ready in a day or two. And this makes me wonder if arrogant rappers don't have a false sense of worth. Since an asian kid could come up with some good rhymes but would not be accepted into hiphop because he's not 'real', but could go anywhere if he played good guitar, I say hiphop has a problem.

You need to be talking about Joyner Lucas. He's in the sweet spot of a hungry young rapper with a conscious mind, straight-edge (almost) with a chip on his shoulder. His remixes like Gucci Gang and Mask On kill the originals and his collab with Chris Brown was some dope original content. If theres to be an alternative to mumble, he needs some attention.

I really fuck with Murs and hiphopdx; but his analysis here seems kinda off to me, and leaves me with more questions than answers.
Hip hop as a culture has been defined by the four elements and other features; but is it possible for those features and elements to change into something else? I suspect that it might be. Murs kinda sounds like a bitter old head talking about migos here.
I think about mighty mos watching this- “people always want to know where hip hop is going… we are hip hop. You, me everybody… so next time you wonder where hip hop is going, ask yourself- where am I going? How am I doing?”

hi murs – why do you term Writing as "graffiti" i think its of note as in Style Wars (one of the key documents of the culture) the very first line defines the nomenclature succinctly regarding self definition – "they call themselves writers because that's what they do, they write their names among other things everywhere, names they have been given or have chosen themselves". the term graffiti was applied by those out with the culture to stereotype and malign through negative association.

i don't think you HAVE to mean anything in your own art. I mean yes you can think they are stupid for calling their album culture (I do too trust me) and then not representing the culture in the art or the music really. But its their music, and they can say whatever they want. You wouldn't tell picasso how to paint ya know?
