D if you read these comments I just want you to look up a little bit about COMPLEX PTSD it is a much more severe form of PTSD formed by multiple or prolonged periods of neglect &/or abuse esp at the hands of a parent or primary care giver. So bsically the 1 or 2 people in this world who, as you have mentioned yourself in interviews, pretty much have all control over you & your enviornment. These are the people responsible for shaping the most formative years of a child's life & when they not only fail that child but then add abuse or severe neglect on top of it that poor child has very little chance in the world. There are so many obstacles now a days raising a happy healthy child even in a "middle class" neighborhood in a safe home… The APA (the group that decides what goes in the DSM, or book of mental health diagnosis) refused to add complex PTSD despite advocates from both veterans affairs & the national center place for ptsd pushing for it. The type of trauma left behind from a car accident does not compare to that of a child who grew up in such brutal circumstances. Soldiers who have had multiple deployments & experienced a lot from those would also be considered to have this type of complex PTSD, so there are a couple of distinct exceptions to the childhood part.
I am sure, and now my psychiatrist agrees, that i have this. I have a slew of diagnosis, both mental & physical. I am also a crack addict, thank God one in recovery. I, however, did not grow up in the hood. I grew up on a farm in upstate NY, so a little less then 3 hours from where you grew up but a different world none the less… I am a 34 yr old f & I began listening to your music as soon as I heard it at the age of 12 in 1998. My mom finally had left my dad 3 yrs earlier & I was in middle school, i was clueless about drugs until the day my bestie got me to smoke a joint with her 2 yrs later when i 14, yr 2000,man life prior to 9/11 was so good… It was a completely different world… Anyways your music has been such an inspiration to me the last 22 yrs, even when you got locked up & they tried to black ball you from the game cuz ok whatever we may have smoked crack but we can stop to get our souls back, you were smart to keep yours, even tho i know it is a tortured soul that does not take away from its beauty or significance in this world… If i start going into detail this will be paragraphs long, just please know your music has literally saved my life before. I was so honored to finally get to see you in concert last year at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park NY (formally known as Northern Lights?). We have walked very different paths but i feel your pain. I thank God every single day for keeping me here, currently keeping me on the sober path, and most of all i thank Him everyday for my son bc he is just the absolute best I'm the world's luckiest mama, 14yrs old already but ALWAYS my baby & such an amazing, wonderful soul himself
Edit: BTW I stay messin w/ your new stuff too I just appreciate you so much.

I don't think DMX was gonna get much bigger. He was already near the top and then he started rapping more about religion which less and less people identify with each day.

His first 5 albums all went number 1 and he came out of retirement and his 6th album went #2 on the board. So I don’t think the question is “how big world he have gotten” cause he was the biggest artist in the world for a while. The question should be “how much longer would he have been at the top if he got over his addiction?”.

True story: DMX was in the town I grew up in when he got into his trouble. I guess he had to live there for his probation so we would always see him riding his bike around the neighborhood and even see him at the barber shop and get pictures with him. So weird and random but was cool asf lol
