Breathtaking song, one of the greatest pieces EVER written, not even just for the 80s. Any time period this would have been jaw dropping.
This song puts my brain in a trance; a trance that I volunteer and partake in often.
The Edge has sung the praises of Paul Reynolds.
"Nightmares" is one of A Flock of Seagulls best tunes.

Never give your heart to stranger.
That entire first A Flock Of Seagulls album is just amazing.
Strange fact, his hair flew off with an actual flock of seagulls… LOL! I kid, I kid, so don't get offended. This song takes me right back to my freshman year in H.S., what a magical time, and this song was truly responsible for a lot of that magic.
I'm a teenager of the 80's, but I don't remember Space Age Love Song … Seriously! I knew "I Ran", but not this one.
However, a few years back I saw a documentary movie called; The King of Kong – a Fistful of Quarters , and then the follow-up Chasing Ghosts – Beyond the Arcade , but at the end of the second documentary, Chasing Ghosts they played Space Age Love Song … It pricked my ears up & made me listen, and since then I've been falling in love!
Great timing! This song has been buzzing in my head over the past few weeks! ❤️
i was 14 years old and saw AFOS at astoworld my first concert ever with my uncle we tried to see them at cactus records and tapes but they were late
My favorite FOS song by far. Not that the others were bad, but SALS is the shu ite.
Amazing song!
Jennifer Connelly video version
I absolutely love this sorta B-side, not-B-side.. it's so reminiscing
Love Flock of Seagulls. Space Age Love Song is the ultimate day dream inducing song. Saw them perform in Minneapolis but Mr. Score was having a bad night arrived late and cursed at the audience about not giving an F about his hair:) Seems more at peace now.
In my opinion this is the EPITOME of everything the 80s was!! Dreamy, New Wave, TOTALLY capturing the essence of youth, and love. Just pure 80s perfection!!!!! This and Just Like Heaven by the The Cure is just total perfection when defining why the 80s was amazing!!!
Was SO hoping this song would get some love! It is my all-time favorite song! Just takes me to a happy time and place in my life. Thank you, Professor!
Amazing video! Hey professor, have you considering making an episode about Stocking Heads ? One of the best new wave bands from CA from all times. Thanks
Love AFOS. I was six years old and found them, in 1986. I had the pleasure of spending time with, Paul Reynolds from the band 13 years ago in a local bar. He tells this story the same, as I asked him. He went into great detail of how he suffered from anxiety and PTSD about just getting on stage and he was let go eventually from the band. He was 21 when this happened. Lovely guy and to this day, one of my favorite guitar players. So underrated.
Iconic. Damn I miss the 80's.
One of my all time favorite synth-rock songs! I also ADORE the music video featuring a very young Jennifer Connally!
Flock of Seagulls is simply breathtaking and everything I ever wished I could accomplish if I were a musician. it stands up today against anything out there on the radio.
Their debut album was one of the first albums I ever had. I had the I Ran single and I think my sister got tired of me just playing that song, so she bought me the album. I hate that a lot of people just think of them as a haircut and don’t respect the great music they made. Their first three albums with the original members are simply amazing.
Best part of this song was Jennifer Connelly
TOP NOTCH!!! song
Great band, and I run great song!!!
The sound of the 80's
THE MORE YOU LIVE THE MORE YOU LOVE…
Adam… Funny you should say that your support is "paramount" because I was just about to write this comment to tell you my story when you said it. Back in 1981 and 1982, I was the DJ at a 2000 person nightclub in Staten Island, New York… The Paramount Theater. It was a disco for a few years, trying to copy Studio 54. I managed a Punk/New Wave clothing store a couple of blocks away and as disco was waning, I convinced the owners of the Paramount ( who frequented our shop) to give me a shot playing New Wave and Rock n Roll. It became very successful very quickly and in the next two years we had a who's who of bands play live. James Brown, Talking Heads, Ramones, Billy Idol, B-52's, Joan Jett, Squeeze, Ian Hunter, The Specials, Bow Wow Wow, David Johansen ( from the New York Dolls), John Waite, XTC and finally, on July 31,1982, A Flock of Seagulls. "I Ran" was #43 on the Hot 100 that week….and rising. I had received an early copy of "I Ran" and played it incessantly as I did almost every song on the album when it was released. I met them pre-show and they were a great bunch of guys. I went back to see them after the show and they were amazed how many songs the crowd knew and responded to. They signed a band photo for me with the words "Thanks for the play Mr. DJ" written across the top, which I still have today. I went on to see the band and visit them backstage at any New York area show I could see, culminating in their appearance opening for the Go-Go's at Madison Square Garden on October 19th, 1982, the same week as "I Ran" peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Great memories !
FOS opened up for The Thompson Twins on the "Into the Gap" tour…GREAT show. @ UC Davis Davis,CA Also The "Weather Girls' "It's Raining Men" opened the show……
That whole album was the soundtrack to my 1983. Still listen to it today.
Saw them at the Stone Poney in NJ back in the '80's.. Was an awesome show!!
Save Ferris
FOC is such a guilty pleasure. They had this huge sound that I loved back then, and thoroughly enjoyed. But deep down I knew they weren't great musicians. Still so very catchy, though. Total ear porn.
Waiting for this one. So good.
The video with Jennifer Connelly did justice to this song.
I didn't think I would sit through this interview but I really enjoyed it and went to the end!!
THe Seagull hair. always cracked me up.. oh 80's where have you gone? SMH.

Been a Seagulls fan since the beginning, and "Space Age Love Song" is a big reason why. Their look and their sound was halfway between dork and punk, just like me. Summer of '83, I may or may not have had the haircut. No pictures exist, so I have complete deniability. ?
I like your Shirt. In 86 I made a "Save Ferris Shirt" by myself.
Tootsie is a classic.
It's like you're reading my mind with all these great insights to all my favorite songs. Thanks for all these great videos!
This best way to describe this song is magical. And one of the best vids on Youtube is Space Age Love Song playing along to footage from Career Opportunities. It's so perfect that Target should have made this the ad for their shops. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcMh6GZoFC8
