Just had to say one thing : I have All these rappers in my GOAT list{hip hop legends}, and i dont positionize them as No 1 or No 2, I consider them as legends and i put them in the category of GOATS. When will it take people to understand that legends shouldn't be compared and shouldn't be put on No 1 and 2 spots, They should be kept in a category, and not in a rank. Let that sink in that comparing legend to a legend proves nothing if you truly respect this culture. Just categorize them as GOATS, not rank them in 1 and 2…

It all depends on your personal criteria for ranking these rappers. BUT I dont care What criteria you use If Eminem isnt atleast in your TOP-10 it's because you are Ignorant to what Hip-Hop is or you are simply a Bigot Either way your opinion means nothing if Eminem isnt in your TOP-10 list.
MY CRITERIA IS FOR LISTING GOAT'S IS… 1. Impact 2. Influence
      3. Creativity(Writing/Pen Game)
      4. Rapping Ability(Flow/Delivery ect)
      5. Longevity
SO BASED ON MY CRITERIA MY TOP-10 LIST IS THIS.
      1. Eminem. 2.Tupac
      3. Andre3000 4. Rakim
      5. Nas 6. Jay-z
      7. Royce Da 5"9 8. Biggie
      9. Kendricks. 10. Black Thought
The reason my list may look so different than yours is because the criteria I perceive to be most important like IMPACT. Eminem and Tupac no doubt have had the biggest Impact in Hip-Hop. I'd say that Tupac had a bigger impact because of what he meant to so many people. Eminem is a better writer for sure. He may be the best writer in music period. As far as Skill with the microphone Eminem is the Best Ever and it's not even close. That's why I have Tupac under Eminem in my list however if you have Tupac Over Eminem I cannot disagree with you.

Because he’s “A Guest” in Hip-Hop. Here in 2020 as his spot in Hip-Hop has been challenged due to race barriers, Em has been incredible cordial and respectful in a very Em way, about saying that he loves the culture, loves the craft, and feels like since it’s a black created and owned craft, he refuses to own it.

Even as his own fans defend his place in Hip-Hop (that he’s EARNED), he still sits back and claims that he is a guest, and is grateful to be here.

That being said… if a love for the craft, the culture (including figure heads that hate you), and a willingness to put out projects even when you can’t top your last one…but still try (putting you in a much worse position as far as full catalogue in the long run), doesn’t make you at least ONE OF the greatest to ever do it, I can’t say what does.

Eminem a.k.a Marshall Mathers is without a doubt one of the greatest to ever touch the mic but I do not believe he is the greatest of all time.
He is talented, He is versatile, He is a maestro but he is not the greatest of all time.
Yes he has sold a lot of records but sales do not make you the greatest of all time. I have pointed this out more than once to as many that care to listen.
Eminem's success in part can be attributed to his skill as much as his colour, there's no denying the fact that if he were black no one would pay him any mind. Now this is a tricky argument because on the flipside it can also be said that perhaps I, a black man along with most of hiphop's audience being black, am biased against Eminem who is a white rapper.
I acknowledge his skill, it is truly without equal and he has sold alot of records but I do not see him as the greatest of all time.
I would pick (in no particular order) Rakim, Kool G Rap, Jadakiss, Nas, JayZ, Notorious BIG, 2Pac, KRS 1, LL Cool J all ahead of Eminem. I would also throw in Ice Cube, Scarface, Big Daddy Kane, Kendrick Lamar into the mix, they are worth mentioning too.
But Eminem is without any doubt, a badass motherf***er.

I think it's just that Eminem is sensitive. Period. The actual human behind the artist has always been able to write poetry which speaks to everyone,. whether they are musical geniuses or just a normal person. Being a musician, too was just gravy. Politicians don't elect themselves,. right? Like the video. Peace all.

One day eminem will find a few pills deep in his couch cushions and eminem will drop a diss on slim shady. Then slim shady will respond back with a diss to eminem and it will be best and most lyrical beef to ever be.

I personally don’t think he’s the goat. I think Pac Big Nas and maybe Jay are better. I don’t agree with how he brought up Grammy nominations. Because your famous doesn’t make you the best. Lil Pump has more sells than Big L, does that make him better, no.

      Two variables:

      Skill: I.e Tech 9ine
      &
      Transcendence: I.e Drake

Bad | Average | Good | Great | Top tier

To be the ‘greatest’ you’d have to be considered considerably well versed in both skill and transcendence; if your a transcendent rapper but your skill isn’t considered (atleast in some respect) up to par with the most skillful (I.e Drake) then you cannot be the greatest and if your a ‘skillful’ rapper but your music doesn’t transcend (atleast) relatively to the most transcendent then you also cannot be considered the greatest rapper of all time (I.e Rakim), whilst popularity can be biased it does show you what music is desired most and that should tell you something; if the audience don’t know who you are it can often mean they haven’t heard of you yet or have heard of you and you didn’t catch their ears for them to care to remember. It may also mean you cater to a very specific audience which is precisely not what ‘transcending’ means.

Both these things are skills that can be honed and those who are considered some of the ‘greatest’ as you will see if you look have both: for example the likes of Jay Z, Biggie, 2 Pac or Kendrick Lamar, it then becomes a question of “who between them is the greatest”. This is determined by ‘consistency, longevity and impact’; who has been doing this most consistently across their careers i.e bodies of work (and verses in general) and how impactful their music has been.

Lyricism, Flow, Content, Instrumentals, Structure, Delivery, Wordplay, Punchlines, Alliteration, Storytelling, Rhymes, Message, Compassion, Heart, Philosophy, Outspoken …
are things that determine a great rapper
