I kind of think that emo rap is a further evolution of gansta rap. Telling you what happening, except now it’s more introspective and how the life affected the people in the communities. Once you had the bigger rappers begin to open up, it allowed MCs who never loved the life a story to tell.
As long as it isn't mumble rap, it's all good
Most of these sad songs that rappers make are because people are tired of hiding pain and being tough. I get there should be a balance. But sad songs should be respected. We want emotionally intelligent musicans. Not angry birds
