When I started writing the lyrics to 2AM, I couldn't help but be inspired by this house party I went to in LA not long before…..it was probably past 2AM and we were dancing and laughing and just basking in the energy of being free of typical worries. It was summer and it felt special to feel unbothered by the world outside that living room. I didn't wanna leave. Loving blackness is an act of political resistance according to bell hooks and that's exactly what that party and this song is about. Celebrating your skin, your culture, your identity, what makes you unique. The music video brings the house party vibe to the streets of my hometown of LA in slightly surrealist way; wanted it to be a one-shot as if you were catching us move from one after party to another. The great Lena Waithe made it all happen and brought on the amazing Tiffany Johnson to direct. Super proud of how it all came together and I hope you enjoy it xx
