I have always loved this film and I always will. RIP D.A. Pennebaker.
Drop some acid and you'll know what the word groovy means.
no nigga situation…………
There’s a reason they end with The Who! Sums it up doesn’t it!
Libertad
Brothers and sisters 50 years ago today this film was released and man it was life changing for me, I'm so thankful to all the people that put together!
Hey! It's Norah Jones' dad!
The real concert that kicked it all off ! Two weeks before Monterey concert there was another kick ass concert more mind-blowing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttf5Nr2lehQ
Huge Who fan but jimi is the coolest cat here!
So…
to summarize…
GROOVY!
esto es calidad¡ ojala las cosas fuesen como antes..
Jimi Hendrix is the only coolest in there.
I found the film unwatchable, and only sat through most of Jimi Hendrix' performance — the greatest guitar player in the world, with a camera zoomed in on his face for the entire sequence of songs, while excluding his hands on his guitar entirely. Thoroughly frustrating. Like watching the Olympics and only seeing the athlete's faces during their routines. Ugh.
It doesn't get any groovier than the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival.
Seeing this tonight! So stoked! Far out man!
I need this song in my life
where have all the good times roll? nothing last forever remember that nothing!!
Feeling Groovy…on Purple Haze !
most of the performers were dead 10 years or so after it
We can't forget it was promoted by John Phillps. Lou Adler and Derek Talyor. And that the Beatles George Harrison and Paul McCartney gave a hand. George was responsible for the inclusion of Ravi Shankar. And Paul sugested The Who and Jimy Hendrix. They didn't want Jimi. Paul insisted. So, somehow, as we know Jimi became a super star after this festival, Paul was the one who introduced Jimi to the world. He was already huge but only in England.
Grateful Dead at the end of this are not in the movie, as being in another movie only not being paid was not their bag, man. See them rock in 'Petunia',1968 filmed just before the festival. Janis Joplin too.
The people came and listened
Some of them came and played
Others gave flowers away
Yes they did
Down in Monterey
Down in Monterey
Young gods smiled upon the crowd
Their music being born of love
Children danced night and day
Religion was being born
Down in Monterey
The Byrds and the Airplane
Did fly
Oh, Ravi Shankar's
Music made me cry
His majesty
Prince Jones smiled as he
Moved among the crowd
Ten thousand electric guitars
Were groovin' real loud,
The Who exploded
Into violent light
Hugh Masekelas music
Was black as night
The Grateful Dead
Blew everybody's mind
Jimi Hendrix, baby
Believe me
Set the world on fire, yeah!
I think that maybe I'm dreamin'!
Monterey!
Monterey-yeah!
Down in Monterey
Did you hear what I said?
Down in Monterey
I like how Roger throws the smoke bomb and Ketih knocks over the floor tom to the mic stand and spills the drinks.
Where can I get tickets?
"Monterey" by Eric Burdon.
What song is his ???
you claim to be able to prevent a recording of a performed Jimi Hendrix concert in 1967. If Jimi had known that, he would not go on stage.
Monterey we lost so many Beautiful People from The Day
OMG I can cry all day
RIP
Scott Mckenzie the latest lost from Monterey
