Disaster? It’s seasoned professionals correcting a blip, I applaud them playing on, giving fans a great set.

I never cared much at all for "Hair"/"Glam" metal in general and Poison specifically…but I respected their work ethic. Even in comparison to the usual "dues-paying" phase bands invariably go through to catch a break, they *really* hustled. Sublime– a band I *did* like– called it the "One Brick At A Time" approach: if you get offered a gig playing for half a dozen drunks at some dive the size of a walk-in closet 300 miles away…take it. If you win just one fan, that's progress.

Which is why I am especially stupified at the number of bands who, like Poison, works for years to get off the launch pad, and once things start to happen, it's as if they said "Okay, fellas…this is it. We've *arrived.* All those years spent road-tripping all over the place in some old beater, eating $1 Value Meals from Taco Bell split five ways, staying in fleabag motels that offers hourly rates for a room with 5-day-old dead junkie under the bed, playing crappy gigs at crappy venues for chump change, working the street, passing out flyers, the whole bit…it's *FINALLY* paid off. So then: how can we best go about fucking all of this up in spectacular fashion?"

It's become such a cliche. Musicians knocking themselves dead to get noticed, then signed to label, and then…it's all booze, coke, car crashes, heroin, fistfights, criminal charges, waking up in the ER with a priest standing over you to administering the Last Rites after someone ODs.

I totally admit Poison was and still is a guilty pleasure, I loved their early pop rock songs (haven't listened to anything since the Native Tongue album, didn't like it). Say what you want about the performance, you can't say it was pre-taped playback! Performers actually playing their instruments, novel concept these days ?

This was the same show that Van Halen performed Poundcake on, watch that clip and you’ll see a HUUUUUGE, difference between a well rehearsed, oiled machine of a band , and one (Poison) that “sh*t the bed”
