I think Gangsta rap can be a good thing when it comes to awareness of problems that exist in society. It is not the problem, but I think that some rappers tend to glamorize the lifestyle. The thing that has bugged me in a lot of current Hip Hop is the glorification of taking perks, as a former heroin addict I think I am qualified to say that opiates are a horrible idea. Then you have some ignorant folks like my cousins nephew that thinks that perks are nothing like heroin. The high is the same, and the withdrawals are the same. Didn't Juiceworld die of an overdose? Obviously the artist cannot be held accountable for the stuff people do, but there has to be a better sense of self awareness in this world, and that is not a cultural thing. Most of our society refuses to be honest with themselves anymore, for the angry white guy the result is voting for an insane idiot like Donald Trump. Over 250,000 people dead, and these people still support him.
H.R. from Bad Brains recorded vocals for the song sacred love from jail. I know a lot of people on this page probably don't know about them, but they rock.
The difference between NWA and other artists from California is that they was able to personify the image of the gangsta rapper. That's my take on it.
I’d say the most negative music would be Death Metal not Gangsta Rap.
Thanks Bro. Subscribed. Great work.
Nigga by gangsta rap is amazing
Hip Hop should have a right to exist separate from Gangsta Rap
Gangsta Rap exists to indoctrinate youth. Hip Hop exists to educate them
Gangsta Rap shows you the possibilities of Materialism
Hip Hop presents you with possibilities of Language
Gangsta Rap also narrates the reality of poverty and violence
Hip Hop narrates a reality through Escapism
Everyone who fight for his rights and care for his people is a gangsta.
I am a beginner rapper and listen and write gansta rap?
A good portion of Gansta is just glorifying violence. The other portion is offering solutions and raising awareness of violence. Hip Hop is mostly good.
BUT, artists in the bad portion of Gangsta aren't creating more violence because of their music. It is because they themselves grew up in that type of environment.
Expression is always a product of Experience.
As a muslim the last part hit me different
You’ve got a great channel, man. Love the history. Love the breakdown. Gangsta rap is vital. You can enjoy Goodfellas without trying to join La Cosa Nostra.
Old school gangster rap was less glorifying but the new stuff is.
Its was over done especially when the ppl was rap it wasn't gangster or street cube dre 69 many more
I'd argue that the whole gangsta shit, partially at least, has its roots in the blaxploitation films and soundtracks from the 70s, that's where the glorification of pimpin and dealing and big ass cadillacs and diner plate gold rings and shit started at, plus cats like Curtis Mayfield who's been chronicling the struggles of black folks in the ghettos since he was in the Impressions in the 60s at least. Idk, just my two cents..
Wu tang clan was gangsters from New York
IT INFLUENCES PEOPLE BADLY!!!
THESE ARE ONLY MY REALLY REALLY BAD EXPERIENCES WITH PEOPLE WHO FORMED A GANGSTER CULT THROUGH THIS MUSIC
I know rather many people who were influenced badly. One attacked my fiancée (this is the account of my fiancé) and got her into psychiatry because of the trauma of the sexual violence and violence in general she faced through them.
Now you can say „bad people exist everywhere“ and that’s right, but this dude who lead this gang of gangster was a quiet outsider for as long as I know. He was a kind kid, he never had many friends but he was polite and cared about others. Then he adapted to his new „lifestyle“ and now he and his friends (who were rather normal before all of this too) go around and do crimes all the time. They drunk drive, they sell drugs, they beat up innocent people and when I told them that we will go to the police to report what they did to my girl they said they will kill her if we do that and they have no respect for the law.
One of them was gay once and they bullied and harassed him for that, telling him he is no real man and he is a fa****. In this time period they let ran around in our small town with big music speakers on their shoulders and played a gangster rapper song that dissed gay men on repeat. Sooner or later the gay dude said it was just a phase and now he is one of them. He regularly harasses girls and is proud about it.
Sorry but that’s almost a cult. idk where you all live but where I live there are so many idiots who behave like this through this music or Gangster idols.
I don’t say normal people will behave like that – they obviously have huge insecurities. But If I was an artist, I would FEEL LIKE SHIT if I was creating such a bad influence through my music.
Idk… it has a right to exist… in the future. Still too many idiots around.
I know I shouldn’t generalise but all the people I know that hear this stuff only hear it so they can act like a gangster to cover up their low self esteem. They even attacked people who are really close to me. You don’t know how often I had to call the police… they were quiet outsiders before adapting this lifestyle and going completely mad.
I wouldn’t ban it but I won’t support it either.
Yes, gangsta rap is protected by the 1st Amendment of the United States. It is okay to dislike the genre and not listening to it. Anyone who attempts to bash gangsta rap is indoctrinated and they need to read a fucking book before arguing. If anyone do not like X, do not do X, period.
Murdering took place way before gangsta rap existed

I prefer conscious Hip Hop. But for sure, without gangsta rap we wouldn’t have any of the legendary 90’s emcees
This guy is so fucking dumb and clearly doesn’t understand how statistics works. The popularization of rap is directly correlated and has solid causational theories. If 20% of a population is the demographic that can be influenced by rap and 90% of them do. If rap quadruples, the rise in influence tapers off significantly since the demographic already being targeted, and say it rises to 98%. To an outsider however this is only a 20 to 22% increase, but is misleading towards the issues that plague rap. Young teens whose brains haven’t fully formed being influenced by hateful and bigoted rhetoric is damaging to the black community and still is so to this day.
Drill music = uk
Yo please do a video on uk drill and grime, especially uk drill
Dude it's music if I like a song there are 10% chances of mine to be influence and follow the song so if it's rap it's rap not rape or serious shit…just enjoy music 2pac was in jail do u want to go to jail answer is no no no
Its like asking….Does western /action movies have the right to exist ❓❓❓?
THINK ABOUT IT
James Brown was blatantly gangster as fuck and Gil Scott Heron talked about street life accurately all the time so like I'm not too sure bout the beginning part
IT STARTED WITH KOOL G RAP IN 1986
.
In a Joe Rogan podcast, one of his guests, who was a war photographer (pretty sure), said that in the first 6 months of 2018 there had been more gang-related murders in Chicago than soldier deaths in the entirity of the Afganistan war. So, there are gang members that are walking around with undiagnosed and untreated PTSD
Eh i dont like gangster rap, not my thing, let it live but i dont like when people make me listen to it. I enjoy a different style of music
Getting a little late in the party (Jan/2020): IMHO gangsta rap should be understood the same way as gangsta movies. In other words, it's not because someone watched The Godfather that they have to engage in criminal activities after the film. The same way you don't have to be a criminal to write a catchy and entertaining gangsta rap lyrics (the same way Scorsese doesn't need to be a "G" to write about Gs in the movies. I'm sure a classic such as "Goodfellas" is not Scorsese's testimony as a former mafia thug).
This bullshit doesn't deserve to be called music.
This is such a great video . The way Murs breaks this shit down is phenomenal . They should show these videos in schools in classes like sociology .
HELL YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gangsta rap was existed after eazy e because he's the king RIP man???✊???? and yes it does exist????????
A young cube was hell.
It's what started this shit fym smh
This is just my opinion! I think that any genre of music containing sexual connotations that mention private parts, should be considered a form of pornography. Two Live Crew's "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" is a good example, as well as AMG's "Bitch Better Have My Money". I also think that any music containing excessive profanity, or any that preaches violence and gang activity should be made as illegal as child pornoraphy. The thing that they let stand in the way of that kind of legislation is the 18th Century First Amendment "Right To Free Speech". I feel that somewhere, they have to draw the line. Like I say, that's just my opinion.
Everything has a right to exsist. If its a good thing it exsists is another question.
First of all, as a white guy, I can never truly understand the historical and current Black experience. Having said that, I can accept that systemic racism has had a dramatic on Black and other minorities and that the impact of this is not to be minimized or forgotten. In spite of this, people like Dr. King, Malcom X, Rosa Parks and many others have focused on creating a new reality – they focussed on the reality they wanted rather than the reality that is. They never denied or minimized their lived experience, but they did transcend it. There is still a long way to go to put racism and stereotypes in their proper place (i.e. non-existent). So, while gangsta rap may be a reflection of the existing lived experience, as long as that is the focus, it will always be the reality. As with King and others, focus on the reality you want because what you focus on will become your reality. Additionally, rappers were trying to convey a message to the world at large: "look at our lived experience and how it is for us. This needs to change." But, I wonder if their message got lost in the way their delivery. By using explicit language, glorifying violence and drugs, by objectifying women, the message got lost (to the dominant culture, who are the ones who NEED to get the message and change things from their end). This then perpetuated a stereotype that became the dominant culture's discourse. We missed the message because we were focussed on the delivery. Not right. Not fair. But, that is "our" reality (for both dominant culture and all of the minority cultures).
