finally a movie where the teenagers look like teenagers
it was a good movie but it gave me a panic attack.
Regardless of the content of the movies, it seems like a sweet story, but the representation of schizophrenia is so flawed. I have two people in my family very close to me with schizophrenia, one of them is my mother another my sister. The thing about schizophrenia is that the voices and delusions are always negative, they are never encouraging, they're never positive, it is always a constant negative stream of consciousness that lead to paranoia and delusions. This movie portrayed schizophrenia as some sort of quirky alternate reality that can sometimes be interesting. One where you interact with people and they can talk back to you and tell you things that help you, but the thing about schizophrenia is that voice are always negative. Always. Your reality becomes warped toward the negative and you decay slowly. For my mom it was over 10 years. It's not a glamorous or romantic disease whatsoever.
Reminds me of the time I got heard a voice coming from the south side of my wall. It would really disorient me and I would go outside (bad idea I know) but I had to leave because the house was terrifying me and then I saw complete dissociation from reality, I was dancing because I thought I was in jupiter or something… Well thing is I went to the hospital and got things cleared out

so disappointing that the makers of the movie/ actors didn't contact anyone actually experiencing schizophrenia before they made the movie ?

The movie was okay but what was so wrong about the book story they felt they had to change everything?
This movie displays an inside look at someone with this disease. The fact that it has not done better states how we feel about others problems as a society. We want everyone to hear our specific real life story only to realize we share a path with so many! Love.
