The difficulty Irish drill has, is that it won't ever inspire the gang violence that London has. Drill wouldn't be my go to genre – from my perspective I cant relate to it and the content is often repetitive; limited to guns, drugs and violence but thats the essence of the genre I suppose – thats not me throwing shade.
However, as Drill goes in Ireland, I've yet to see someone do it better than INK. JB.2 is a close second – I mean you can definitely see these guys have the artistic ability to raise the bar. INK especially is an evident lyricist; I'd like to see him branch out into other genres as I think he has the capacity to – why limit yourself to rapping about the same subject matter but he's got a formula there thats working for him and he's got a very large fan-base so if its not broke, don't fix it.
Have to hand it to these two (INK and JB.2/Mr. Affiliate) — they do appear to be relatively positive people behind the music. You have to remember too that a lot of this music is entertainment – its largely theatre when it comes to Drill. I'm not saying none of these fellas have criminal records, but I am saying that the people who carry out the crimes some of these people are rapping about dont get up on stage and dry snitch on themselves.
Stick to the music though yeah; keep it positive if you want it to survive. Lets not involve politics or allow it to spill out onto the streets with beef and shootings all over song lyrics and diss tracks; fast way to a short shelf life right there. Anyway, proud to see young Irish men making legit money off their artistic endeavours and I hope the movement continues to thrive and grow bigger in the coming years.
