The "try twice as hard and I'm half as liked" line is incredibly misunderstood. The narrator isn't feeling sorry for himself or complaining that nobody likes him. The next line "Here they come again to jack my style" flips it. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The narrator is thinking "They may not act like they like me, but they all imitate me, so who gives a fuck?"
