Sublime Kiwi genius! Perfect pop.
Must be filmed in the dessert road
Quite a lovely tune.
I freakin' loved Brave Words and then the Kaleidoscope World comp came out and had so many good, even earlier songs, and then this little beaut was like the perfect pop song. Martin definitely possessed the muse, plus The Chills is a great band name. Thanks for helping me grind through grad and law schools, boys…Phillipps, Pollard, Gedge and Bragg.
Wow, New Zealand sure looks great in this clip doesn't it?……. Wait, what do you mean this clip was shot in Ireland!?? lol!
I agree
Love this song
Fantastic!
I always thought this was britpop and not from the land of the long white cloud!
Here from The Chills: The Triumph and Tragedy of Martin Phillipps
This song reminds me of home
If the beach boys or the turtles were kiwis.
Just brilliant!!
2.22 Sheep crossing the screen down the bottom left.
Saw them play at the Christmas in the stadium. Dunedin 2019. Sounded so good
Pedro McDormand
It's "eluded the dangers". Great song. So great to hear it in a cinema via the recent documentary.
Cool!
Heaven is on end of the world…Welcome to NZ
I saw the Chills just once, in 1999 NYE supporting the Enz, centre, second row seats. The Chills played good tunes that night, but when they played this – it was literally the most beautifully perfect piece of live music I have ever heard in my life, and I have never been a big Chills listener.
saw them in Auckland at a crummy bar on Symonds Street ..
Decent song sounds like a mixture of R.E.M and British indie bands. Sounds a bit like the R.E.M song 'Stand' at the beginning
WTF?
Did someone say Jehovah!
anyone know where that mountain is?
Regardless of whatever you've done in your life, if you like this song, there's hope for you yet.
Fantastic song. From NZ with love.
NZ
masterpiece ?
I miss this Aotearoa <3
This should have been one of the biggest hits in history.
this band literally sounds like a limp dick.
This song changed literally my life. Instantly bought “Submarine Bells” on vinyl and pre-ordered “Snow Bound”, which releases very soon on September this year (..around my birthday). This is so good! ?
It just is heavenly pop perfection!
Had this song on rotate (all day) the other day. Love how this song is about roaming to being happy and feeling freedom.
absolute musical masterpiece
Amazing pop tune from New Zealand’s greatest.
Each evening the sun sets in five billion places
Seen by ten billion eyes set in five billion faces
Then they close in a daze and wait for the dawning
But the daylight and sunrise are brighter in our eyes
Where night cannot devour golden solar power
Once we were damned, now I guess we are angels
For we passed through the dark and eluded the dangers
Then awoke with a start to startling changes
All the tension is ended, the sentence suspended
And darkness now sparkles and gleams
And it all seems larger than life to me
I find it rather hard to believe
And so I stand and the sound goes straight through my body
I'm so bloated up, happy, I can throw things around me
And I'm growing in stages and have been for ages
Just singing and floating and free
Oh (Dum dum, da de da da)
Dum de dum dum, dum de dum dum
It's a heavenly pop hit if anyone wants it
Oh (Dum dum, da de da da)
Dum de dum dum, dum de dum dum
It's a heavenly pop hit
It's something that we're humming as we
Swoop low on trees or we sweep under carpets
We can dive into suns, though it's not recommended
We can hover silent and listen closely
It all seems larger than life to me
I find it hard to believe
So where was our home, well, our home was in tears
For its fruit had gone bad, they'd been that way for years
Yet their lives are elastic, they should be fantastic
They should be expanding
Oh (Dum dum, da de da da)
Dum de dum dum, dum de dum dum
It's a heavenly pop hit if anyone wants it
Oh (Dum dum, da de da da)
Dum de dum dum, dum de dum dum
It's a heavenly pop hit for anybody
Oh, for those that still want it
Was this ever released in the UK, cos it totally seemed to have been missed out, like many things of quality.
Yussssss i finally found the song…. heard it on the doco Doubt, the scott watson case.
Martin Phillipps is one of the most gifted musicians/composers of the 80's/90's!!!
A great kiwi classic to the world
All i think of is Mark Rees, John Hawkins and Dunedin
Such a great song. Thank god for NZ talent
New Zealand, beautiful land across the Tasman, that's produced so many great bands and so much wonderful music – I salute you.
The happiest song I know!
I think he's being sarcastic… listen.
