How is the guy not the biggest thing on YouTube yet like omg
'Chicago 17', Peter Cetera, and David Foster are all responsible for the term, "Power Ballad". That term did not exist until Chicago 17 was released. From that point forward, countles pop, r'n'b and rock acts included power ballads in their albums. They were everywhere after 1984.
I’ve been a huge fan of his for 50+ years, from the very beginning. He’s been a part of my life for most of my life. And now that I’m nearly 69, he still is. I’d love to see him play Polkas, which were a part of my childhood, since I come from German heritage.
With all due respect to Peter, Terry Kath was the heart of Chicago.
"Nothing more to talk about
It's over when it's over
In the end you both stop trying
In the end it's oh so sad and you're crying."
That's all I have to say about that.
I've never been a big CHICAGO fan, I only remember their light rock stuff from the late 1970's on.
BUT I just saw the video of them in 1969 performing 'I'm A Man' as THE CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY and they were AMAZING!!
Terry Kath was a phenomenal guitarist, the drummer was fantastic and Peter Cetera was an excellent Bassist and his and Kath's singing were so funky. I was truly impressed.
Then I did some investigation on the Band and continued to be impressed.
They were ALL great musicians and could write songs and compose music.
And they had an incredible track record of success with many hit songs and platinum selling records.
CHICAGO was the REAL DEAL!
It really is too bad that the band and Cetera can't make peace and go on a Reunion Tour – it would be a Major Success!
Peter is truly one of the greats! Thanks for the awesome video.
Listen to "Where Did The Loving Go" from Chicago XIV, their big flop album. Yet, this song is one of their best- a true hidden gem.
There is a song that wasn't included is one that also Peter Cetera elevated to greatness… I remember the feeling… Great vocals on that one!
I love, love, love Peter Cetera and have several of his albums and enjoyed his vocal talents a lot when he did lead vocals in Chicago. His voice is one of the most exceptional in Pop music.
I was so sad when he left Chicago, such a great band. But then I was happy about his solo career, so many huge songs. We all fell in love with a Peter Cetera song in the background.
Oh, and it's a bit of a travesty that you haven't done a video on Terry Kath. You feature videos on a lot of guitarist, and I know your focus is on the 1980s; however, Terry Kath was one of the best rock guitarist off all time and is definitely worth looking into.
My Top 5 Peter Cetera Songs are:
1. Only Love Knows Why from his album Solitude/Solitaire (1986)
2. In Terms of Two from Chicago VI (1973)
3. Dialogue Parts I & II from Chicago V (1972)
4. After All with Cher from the soundtrack Chances Are (1989)
5. I'm A Man from the Chicago album Chicago Transit Authority (1969)
My 5'er is:
Feeling Stronger Every Day
If You Leave Me Now
Hard To Say I'm Sorry
Stay The Night
The Next Time I Fall (w/Amy Grant)
My 5'er…Lowdown (his powerful blues runs into rock tone), Dialogue (Part 1) – Duet with Terry Kath, Call on Me (just so smooth!), State of the Union (he's more than a pop singer), What's This World Comin' To? (another powerful duet with Terry Kath)…
Now I have to go listen to Chicago/Peter Cetera on on repeat before I go to bed tonight.
I separate my Chicago w/Peter Cetera fiver from the Peter Cetera solo fiver.
Restless Heart is such an awesome song of his!!!
You mean 17 albums and he left Chicago in 1985 after the Chicago 17 world tour was over.
18:26 Yes! Totally right. My Snoop Dog, Dr Dre, Guns N Roses, Pearl Jam loving brother had this album too. Fantastic album. Definitely a guilty pleasure. George Michael is my guilty pleasure.
21:14 I remember this year vividly. I was 6 years old, really starting to be more aware of music. "I Just Called to Say I love you" was the first song I can ever recall hating… AT 6 YEARS OLD, I KNEW I hated that song. I still hate it. I'm sorry Stevie, you're the master, but I can't stand that song. The rest of those songs. I can close my eyes and hear all of them on the radio. Incredible.
P.S. Billy Ocean would be a great feature on the channel. I'm still binging so I'm not sure if you've already touched on him. Just doing a little research last year I found out that he is a fantastic person.
Love his voice on Questions 67 and 68 – always gives me chills
I used lyrics from “Hard Habit to Break” to write a letter to convince my (then) girlfriend to get back with me after a breakup…we did and have been married over 17 years
