Workfun sounds like an Orwellian word in Newspeak.
I was in an interview with a local company, I had to visit their offices for this interview. During this interview they bragged about their games, pool tables, coffe shops and how fun their AW was…. until I pointed out that all of it was counter productive and was just going to hinder and distract me from my work. They did not take lightly on this, and the interview was cut short. I later published this experience on their own LinkedIN page as a comment (Comment got removed almost instantly), and I then moved to re-write the experience as a post and tagged them instead.
They lost 4 large customer accounts in this process.
It's a shit test. If you don't play along, you lose. If you play along, you lose. The only way to win is not to play. I'm not going to say who caused this, but most people already know.

I feel the same about this as you Mr. Fluke, however keep in mind some people don't operate well in solitude. As an ex cult member you're used to being a unit, but many people can only function well in cliques. This may actually make a lot of sense to some workers. I can't say for sure, but its a possibility.

It really is creepy. Every single company is like a cult with their get togethers, let's have fun, we're a family type attitudes.
My coworkers are not my family. They're acquaintances that I work together with. I want things to go smoothly with them, and I believe in being decent. But, they aren't my family. They aren't my friends.
I do not eat, sleep, and breathe my job. I have my own life, and that is separate from my job. I want that as separate as possible from work.
My life and my work have no right to be combined together, screw any job that tries to get me to join their little cult.
This is why people play GTA after work.

let each individual order whatever lunch they wish for delivery with something like a $30 or $40 limit
let people eat/hang out at multiple large tables, catch up with eachother, talk shop, talk shit for that three hours
*nobody goes back to their desk. nobody goes on the phones. everybody chills together. oh. no group activities or icebreakers

I worked at a place where we had motivational every other month or more and we were not able to work during these meetings. We were not able to build shoe insoles during this time, but we would end up working the weekend making up the hours of lost production. Most of the time they would get us pizza and by the time we got to eat the pizza it was cold and old.
My last day was during one of these meetings where I pulled out my lunch from home to eat and was approached by HR as I did not look like I was participating in there "fun". After the meeting I went to the owner of the business and told talked to him. He unknowing gave me the nerve to stop by HR on the way back to my work cell, hand in my badge, and asked to be walked out. I got 7 phone calls over the next 4 days from the owner trying to get me to come back.
Motivational speakers just make me want to kill my self; I did not join the army due to not wanting to put up with stupidity, and joined your company to work.
