They should've started out as RMTV… And Billy Jean was labeled as a "Rock Song" and so was some of Prince's music before they started playing R n B music.

They try to make this sound like MtV was racist, but was it because they were racist or was it because record labels didn't want to spend money promoting black artists? Michael Jackson was unstoppable. No one has ever made videos like he did.

I loved it when MTV only played music videos, made musician-based bumpers, music-based shows, and live performances. Anything that was music. Those were the glory days of MTV. New wave, hard rock, R&B and pop ruled MTV in the 1980's. Then, Grunge and hip hop ruled MTV in the 1990's. Teenagers back then worshiped it as a revelation.
Ridiculousness and Jackass are the only reality shows I liked, but I hate the MTV of today that airs a bunch of garbage reality shows. We are living in the dark days of MTV. I wish for MTV to return to their music roots for the sake of the music world.

This video did not age well the network in a very short span of time became completely irrelevant rallying on reality shows and programs that coasts no money to produce. They have completely abandoned the music video format all together allowing Youtube to become the dominant force in music videos. They don't do concerts anymore and their awards show are heavily produced heavily sanitized shells of what they used to be. In other words I give it another five years before they go the way of G4

For us that were around back then, Mtv was probably the coolest thing on tv. Well besides the rise of HBO and Showtime.
These were good times. The reality of it was nothing like it is now. Now reality is edited full of drama. Back then it was screaming musicians on the streets talking to people.
It's to bad Mtv sold out. Really to bad… It should still be ours.

Do you think the honchos at MTV can see YOUTUBE occupying the space they vacated when they started doing their human-filth-reality programming? Music videos are now on Youtube, sportsfans! Grunge was what killed ROCK! Anybody agree? At least today we have KPOP! That beats the "WHOREDOGS OF HORMONE COUNTY" any day of the week!
