I appreciate and agree with your first video on why the Beastie Boys are the greatest rap group of all time. Their consistency, longevity, ability to adapt in the face of an ever changing Hip Hop/Rap world and their efforts to maintain and spread their affection, adoration and love for Old School Hip Hop is outstanding. Their loyalty to Hip Hop and to each other is amazing. Run-DMC whom they of course owe an invaluable debt to, are way way way high on the plateau of every group that came after them. They are on a class by themselves as is the founders who came before them. Run-DMC are untouchable in my book beyond any ranking whatsoever. I feel if one is going to rank, start with everyone else after them. Yes, there are more complex and interesting groups like the ones you mention in this. However, I am still sticking with your excellent and exceptional argument for why The Beastie Boys are the greatest rap group of all time. I’d also recommend watching the Beastie’s live on stage documentary available to stream on Apple TV, where the surviving members Adrock and Mike D give for the most part, a frank, honest and entertaining assessment of their history.

I think being white had to do with a lot of the success of the beastie boys, like you said with the black panther affect. I think that had a lot to do with bringing a lot of new people into the hip hop community. But if you look at overall popularity, and consistency, nobody has the beastie boys beat.

Ehh I don't agree with the black panther theory argument. It's too simplistic. I'm a white male of Greek background, I love Beastie Boys they're possibly in my top 5 every day of the week. Not as the greatest, but as my favorite, the GOAT conversation is a bit silly to me anyways. But the reason I love BB is plainly and simply because they're dope. IDGAF if they're white. I can't relate with most of their gags anyway or their background. Still find them funny. But color of skin, happenstance of community, gender etc. don't come between me and who do I feel is my dude/dudes. No sir! My favorite rapper is Kool Keith and not because he's black or because he's from the Bronx either. Just because he's dope lyricist and rapper, and has a unique and strong personality, that's the reason. Nice go presenting both sides of the argument though. I liked both videos a whole lot!

Much respect dude. You got it right this time! I've always been down with the BEASTIE BOYS, but the fact of the matter is that they would have never existed had it not been for the influence of THE GREATEST HIP HOP GROUP OF ALL-TIME RUN DMC and JMJ! The KING AD-ROCK, even admitted that as a rap group, they were trying very hard to be like them. The sad part of this argument is that a lot of people have forgotten how important RUN DMC was to this music. I'm a 54 year old black dude from Brooklyn, and I was there in the late 1970s thru 1980s which is known as the "Golden Age of Hip Hop."Before RUN DMC came on the scene the music was known as rap. After RUN DMC was through wit the shit, IT WAS CALLED FUCKIN' HIP-HOP!

This is a thoughtful analysis – as was your previous endorsement of the opposite view. BBoys are easily my favorite group of all time but there can only be one best ever so they're likely not it. One thing I think they've done more than most bands is introduce me to new or different music. When this very white suburban kid saw PE open for them in 1987 my eyes and ears were opened. They were amazing (if a bit scary). So was Sonic Youth when I saw them open for the BBoys several years later. They could also be a gateway to bands like Bad Brains or the Misfits. That's a pretty eclectic mix. And not particularily related, anything QTip puts out is golden – when my favorite band and favorite rapper got it together …. wow

Sad that you have to do this bro….Beastie Boys are definitely in my top 3 bands off all time, but they'd be the first to admit they weren't better rappers than KRS or Chuck D x

So did Run DMC mentor the Beastie Boys thinking they could somehow benefit from their white privilege? Or did they recognize the skill?

I got "Introduced to the 90's by A Tribe Called Quest and for me they're the best Hip-hop group ever " because they introduced me to the 90s and to Digable Planets (I love them as much as I love tribe) and De La Soul

Love the Beastie Boys, if we're talking groups they're probably in my top 3. I gotta put OutKast over them just my opinion. I think NWA goes #1 I mean Dr Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy E between the 3 of them that's a huge influence to this day. Don't get me wrong the Beastie Boys sold the shit outta records, kept their signature sound while constantly experimenting with new styles but all art is subjective just depends who you ask. I think Andre 3000 is the best individual rapper. Who disagrees?

I think the thing to remember about any subculture is that it's always symbiotic, RUN-DMC wouldn't have been as good as they were without the Beastie Boys, Visa Verca. King of Rock itself has huge rock and punk influences that I don't think would have been as prominent if Beastie Boys weren't also doing what they had been doing. Equally RUN-DMC had an iconic sound that the Beastie boys massively borrowed from as stated in the video.

Well, I'll say this. As far as their introduction to Run DMC in Def Jam Yes. Being that they came from another music genre And crossed over into hip-hop. They are the most successful White hip-hop group In American history And that still saying a lot Because they weren't trying to be black It was just the Beastie Boys.

Oddly enough, you says RIP to Phife dog and Easy E but you don’t say RIP to Yauch when announcing each groups members. And the inconsistencies between this and your last video are so incredibly apparent, you can tell this was done to save face amongst the community.
